Supporting Long-Term Recovery
Recovery is a long-term process. Being surrounded with support makes it easier. Support groups and guidance are key to your success in drug rehab. Support options are available to anyone, whether you're in treatment or supporting someone you love.
Only a few people with addiction seek treatment because of the perceived high cost. But the cost of rehab is negligible compared with the potential social and health consequences of not getting treatment. These consequences can be prevented by getting treatment now.
Millions of Americans are living with addiction every day. A 2016 U.S. surgeon general report estimated that nearly 21 million Americans have a substance abuse disorder. Only 10 percent receive treatment for substance abuse.
Why? Costs are a major reason. The cost of treatment was a major factor in the fact that almost 40% of Americans with substance use disorders didn't get to rehab between 2011-2014. They either couldn't afford it, or they didn’t have insurance.
The cost to treat addiction is significantly lower than that of treatment. A lot of people are unaware that insurance can greatly reduce the cost for rehab. New laws require that insurance companies cover treatment for mental illness and addiction.
How much does rehab cost?
The prices for different levels of addiction treatment vary across the nation. People with more severe drug use disorders are likely to require more intensive and longer-term treatment. Intensive treatment tends to be more expensive than standard care.
Detox
Detoxification refers to the removal of drugs from the body. Based on information from drug treatment facilities throughout the United States and estimates of daily costs, a 30-day detox can cost between $250 and $800.
Residential Treatment
Basic residential treatment costs between $2,000 - $20,000. It often involves assessments and round-the-clock supervision. The cost of long-term residential treatment, which lasts between 60 and 90 day, could be twice as high.
Luxury rehab centers can charge up to $25,000 per 30 days. Most private treatment centers charge much less.
Outpatient Rehab
Outpatient care allows people to stay at home while receiving treatment. Patients learn how to live drug-free at home through a series of appointments. A three-month outpatient program can often cost around $5,000. Outpatient care can cost up to $10,000 in some facilities.
Intensive Outpatient Rehab
Intensive Outpatient Treatment is a more complete version of outpatient services. It usually involves several appointments per week that take approximately three hours each. This treatment can be between $3,000 and $10,000 over 30 days.
Partial Hospitalization Programs
Partial hospitalizations are for patients who can return to their homes each evening after receiving intensive treatment during daytime. PHP typically costs between $350- $450 per hour.
Medication-Assisted Opioid treatment
The U.S. Department of Defense released a 2016 report that estimated the cost of various opioid treatment programs.

Treatment centers can be very expensive. However, some facilities offer payment assistance. Some programs are free and paid for by the state. These programs, which are state sponsored, often have long waiting list.
For those in recovery, support groups such as Narcotics Anonymous and Alcoholics Anonymous can be a great option. These 12-step programs have helped millions to get sobriety over the past six decades through regular meetings. You may also find free treatment from faith-based organisations.
